Culture and History:

A former British colony, St Lucia’s culture is a mix of Carib, Afro-Caribbean and European influences. The island is the typical blend of beautiful Caribbean beaches, historical landmarks and relaxed island lifestyle.

The island of St Lucia was named by the French when they arrived in the 17th century, in honour of Saint Lucy of Syracuse – making it the only country named after a woman.

The country is a favourite of honeymooners due to its lush scenery, diverse landmarks and beautiful, uncrowded beaches. The island also hosts vibrant festivals every year, including Carnival and La Rose and La Marguerite National Flower Festivals, reflecting a rich culture and unique traditions.

St Lucia is home to the pitons, two volcanic peaks, Petit piton and Gros piton, that are a UNESCO world Heritage site and iconic symbols of the island. The island’s National Rainforest spans 19,000 acres and is rich in endemic flora and fauna. It features several hiking trails for visitors to experience its biodiversity. Apart from this, there are 25 types of whales and dolphins that can be seen at various times of year in the warm waters surrounding the island.

The St Lucia Botanical Gardens date back to the 1700s; originally a medicinal plant nursery, the gardens are renowned for Diamond Falls, a 17 metre waterfall with stunning colourful mineral deposits. Soufrière also offers volcanic hot springs and mud baths with the minerals in the water famous for their healing properties.

The Island has a longstanding history with cocoa plants and is gaining recognition for its high-quality chocolate. The island offers chocolate tours and tastings, cocoa tea and even cocoa based spa treatments. While tourism has surpassed agriculture as the main economic driver, bananas continue to be a key export and a significant part of the island’s economy and cultural heritage.

St Lucia is a country of adventure and inspiration, demonstrated by their slogan: “Let her inspire you”.  The country’s diverse culture, beautiful landscapes and pleasant climate make it a desirable location for investors seeking citizenship in a peaceful, tropical paradise.
